David Welz
David Welz has 15 years of experience in marketing, sales and communications, including work in corporate, startup and agency environments. Welz uses his experience to help businesses build on success -- or create a foundation for it -- using both traditional and innovative methods to craft and deliver the right message to the right people.

Some past and current clients include: Ska Brewing Co., Southwest Conservation Corps., Fire Ready, Inc., Durango Soda Co., Durango School District 9-R, The Acceptus Group, and Stoneage Tools Inc.

 

Corporate

As marketing director for a 17-million dollar resort company, Welz oversaw a national marketing effort that included placing over half a million dollars in advertising and attending more than 50 trade shows annually, as well as cross-marketing ancillary services and products to guests onsite. Welz also directed an in-house graphic design department, and worked with advertising and web design agencies on web site development and media placement.

 

Startup

As marketing manager for a successful e-commerce startup, Welz created and supported partnerships with leading travel industry companies including Travelocity, Northwest Airlines and Fairmont Hotels & Resorts. He also helped generate press coverage in leading newspapers and magazines, and wrote and distributed more than 100 issues of a weekly travel e-mail newsletter.

 

Agency

As an account manager for a top-ranked PR agency in the outdoor industry, Welz represented clients including Prana clothing, Nikwax waterproofing products and Dansko shoes. Welz provided professional PR services including developing strategy, creating press releases, conducting outreach and prepping clients for interviews with the media.

Interests
Welz is active in his hometown of Durango, Colorado. He currently serves on the Executive Board for Southwest Conservation Corps, a non-profit organization that offers young adults work experience and training in leadership and environmental stewardship while completing projects on public land. He has also served on the Tourism Board of the Durango Area Chamber Resort Association. Welz enjoys writing and has published feature stories and articles in regional publications. He is also an avid skier and PSIA-certified ski instructor. 
 

International

In 2006 Welz temporarily relocated to the island of Cyprus when his fiancee Lori accepted a teaching job there. In the summer of 2007 they moved to Genoa, Italy when Lori took a job with the International School of Genoa. Welz continued to work for clients in the U.S. using web and VoIP phone technology. They returned to Durango in the summer of 2008 -- happy for two exceptional years abroad but thrilled to be back home in the mountains and deserts of the Southwest.
